Ainuyr Elvaleryn

History - (Translated into common from Ainuyr's Journal)

A young elven boy ran through the tall grass of the fields around The Haven, the elven village. The Haven was protected on all sides by a deep, thick forest known as the Kentor Wood. The Haven was situated on a large clearing in the wood, built by the ancestors of the people that now reside there.

The same young elven boy came running into the village, turning down a side path that lead to his home. His mother was waiting inside as he came in. She stood up and with a worried look said,"Ainuyr, where have you been?" The young boy said with a grin,"Adventuring." His mother said,"But you know the orcs are getting close to our village, it won't be safe out much longer."

The next day, the first signs of the orc tribe could be seen. The inhabitants were busily fortifying the village from attack, and all the elven males of mature age stayed behind, the women and children left.

Later that day Ainuyr and his mother were moving through the forest making their way to the Docks by the bay, a day's ride from The Haven.

Ainuyr didn't see the orc behind the bush and his mother didn't see it draw its bow back with an arrow in place. In an instant Ainuyr's mother slumped over on the horse and the orc came lumbering out of the bush, axe in hand. The horse reared and took off, with Ainuyr clinging on for his life. As soon as Ainuyr cleared the forest, he slowed the horse down and slowly brought his mother down and laid her on the grass. A gash could be seen in her neck as she looked up into his face, her eyes. . . motionless.

Ainuyr wept for his mother as he built a pyre for her and laid her gently on it. He struck his kindling stone near some wood and watched as the flames rose. He turned away and slowly prepared a camp for himself to stay for the night, a distance from the pyre but well within sight.

The next morning, Ainuyr walked over to his horse and opened one of the bags, inside it he was surprised to find a worn, leather scabbard with a blade inside. He pulled the scabbard and blade out. He unsheathed the sword and admired its craftsmanship and beauty. On the hilt, his mother's name was inscribed: "Runestar". He held back the tears as the events of yesterday came flooding back into his mind. He sheathed the sword, and returned it to the bag. He lifted himself on the horse and rode off down the path towards the Docks.

The elven lorekeepers of Ainuyr's village knew that the orcs were ravaging what was left of the land that they had once flourished over. The last settlement had been Ainuyr's home, The Haven. One of the lorekeepers, Dariel, had a vision of an Abbey filled with monks, that was situated near a great forest and then what was shown was another vision of an island that came to him, which was to the south of the landmass The Haven was located on.

As Ainuyr drew close to the Docks, he could see the white majestic ships that would carry him to the island that Dariel had been shown in a dream.

Many years passed as the elves prospered on the new island and Ainuyr grew up, he became an accomplished swordsman and seeked to be an Elven Knight, as the last known Elven Knight was retired and became a sea captain, the very same sea captain that brought the elves over to this new island. Ainuyr had spoken to this man of his desire to become one, and had started training from him a few years after they had arrived. It was rumored that Dariel had seen another vision of some sort of strange magical rift that lied in a valley in the center of the island. Dariel took this to heart and said to his people,"The reason we have come here was not to live here forever, we came here to regain our strength and recover, to prepare to travel into a new world, a world beyond the strange magical rift in the valley."

Ainuyr was sent to learn what he could from this portal, with a lorekeeper. They found the magical rift and advanced closer to it, but from the corner of his eye, Ainuyr spied a camp of orcs to the north. They knew of Ainuyr and the lorekeeper's presence, an instant later an arrow was shot and hit its fateful, in the chest of the lorekeeper. Ainuyr quickly ran to gain cover, but knew he was sorely outnumbered and knew he would not be alive for long. He made the choice then and there to travel into the portal, not knowing what dangers await beyond. He tucked down and made a run for the portal, an instant later he felt himself tumbling and falling. He could not see anything, everything went black.

Ainuyr awoke to find himself in a bed in the upstairs of a very familiar building, the building Dariel had described that he had seen in one of his visions. Ainuyr got up and sighed as he walked over to the door, so much had happened, it seemed a distant memory. As Ainuyr clasped on his scabbard which housed Runestar, he smiled faintly to himself and thought that it'd be interesting to meet the locals.
