Therfalas sighed as he sat down heavily at the table closest to the door of the Arrow. The tavern had a faint scent of blood staining the air, giving him an uneasy feeling. He'd been gone from Tel'Ruid for a while, but nothing changes this much in so short a time. He'd hardly expected such a scene upon his arrival. It is summer time, why is their frost on the houses? Why only a few and not all? he thought. He moved slightly in his chair trying to get comfortable. His armor lightly scraped against the wood of the chair, a sound quite familiar to him by now. He'd missed Tel'Ruid. Why do I always have to go on these ridiculous quests? You should've stayed here you fool, then you would know what's going on. You'd know why you were attacked.
Just like his entrance was queued exactly to that thought, Lucky walked in the door. Therfalas looked up and smiled, but it was not returned. Lucky looked much deeper in thought than usual. Something definitely went wrong while he was gone. He was muttering something to himself when he looked up and the looks met. His face twisted into a much friendlier look as both elves acknowledged the other.
"So I leave for just a little while and you let the whole Glade fall apart?" Therfalas smiled quickly.
"What do you mean? Things seem fairly normal to me," Lucky replied sarcastically.
"Pirate attacks are normal, eh Lucky?"
"Oh, that...well, you're right. Things are a little out of hand, so it's good you're back then. Maybe some of us others can get a little rest now. You're in command, we're taking a vacation like you did." Lucky grinned widely and they both chuckled loudly. "Are you alright? He didn't get you too bad did he?"
"I'm perfectly fine, if you think being cut, stabbed, kicked, hit, slapped, crushed, beaten, and poisoned, by drow poison might i add, to be fine. It was quite an interesting encounter to say the least." He paused and took a sip of fey. "Since when do drow help humans? Particularly those of the pirate sort?" He sighed then continued his story. "He took me down once, luckily some other elves happened to pass by and lent a hand. After chasing him down for a while he got pretty tired, but I'll give him credit...he had some stamina. It's rare to see a human capable of running for so long. He made a mistake by running into The Arrow for cover, and I got him to give up there."
"I guess it's a good thing you showed up then, eh?"
"Uma, it is. Just before he died he said that I'd won and caught him and in acknowledgment of my win I could ask him three questions. First I asked why he the pirates were here. His response was, 'for plunder and riches promised by our friends.' Obviously the next question was who these 'friends' were...and unfortunately our greatest enemy has just gotten stronger. Apparently the pirates are allied with the drow. I saw some pirates attacking priests when i was chasing this guy down, so i questioned that and I don't quite understand what he meant. Maybe i missed something, i'm not sure....but he told me 'the dark ones said their blood is better than animals. it's stronger.' Any ideas what this means? Why is it stronger?"
Lucky's face went blank as Therfalas went on with a few questions. Lucky then explained what had been going on in Tel'Ruid while he was gone. It seemed as if Therfalas wanted to say something more, but he refused. "I'll tell you later...but there's something you should know. Let me get rested, then i'll tell you all about it, Shalafi." Therfalas smiled at his former teacher. Both elves nodded to one another and said their farewells waiting for an explanation tomorrow.
